The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking a Manager to lead the Mechanical Workshop, within the Scientific Core Facilities.
ICIQ is one of the world’s internationally recognized leading institutions in the field of chemistry committed to solving major social and economic challenges by conducting top quality research in three main areas: Sustainable Catalysis, Renewable Energy and Health. The candidate will be in charge of the ICIQ’s Mechanical Workshop, that supports ICIQ researchers and external customers in terms of design and fabrication of parts and setups. The mechanical workshop purpose is to design and fabricate (machining and 3D printing) mechanical components of different materials (SS, Teflon, aluminum, polymers…) and to assemble customized setups. Besides this, the mechanical workshop is also in charge of small lab equipment repair.
The development of these tasks results in the following capacities:
Prototyping.
Assembling of new singular on purpose designed measurement devices or reaction setups.
Repairing and improving commercial devices.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
General management of the Unit (equipment maintenance, invoicing, budgeting, purchasing, inventory, service requests, repairs, etc.).
Supervision of the Unit technician and, occasionally, interns.
Design (using Solid Works) and fabrication of metal parts (machining) and plastic components (machining and 3D printing).
Design and assembly of research setups.
Repair of small laboratory equipment (vacuum pumps, chillers, stirrers, etc.).
Logging and tracking of the Unit's work.
Requirements:
Advanced Technician in specific professional training: Advanced Training in Design for the Mechanical Manufacturing and/or Production for the Mechanization and/or Automation and Industrial Robotics (Técnico/a Superior de Formación Profesional, Grado Superior de Diseño para la Fabricación Mecánica y/o Grado Superior de Producción para Mecanización y/o Grado Superior en Automatización y Robótica Industrial).
Advanced knowledge of Solid Works
Advanced knowledge of lathe and milling machine operation.
Advanced knowledge on 3D printing (SLS, FDM and resin).
Wide knowledge and experience using different tools and accessories.
Imaginative, creative and curious person.
Problem solving oriented.
Good English level.

We Offer:
A permanent full-time interim employment contract.
Remuneration aligned with the company’s salary policy, within the PSRCU1 41.200€ based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Selection Process
ICIQ’s selection process usually entails the following phases:
Pre-selection: The pre-selection process will be based on qualifications and expertise as reflected on the candidates’ CVs.
Interview & practical exercise: Preselected candidates will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager of the position and the appointed Selection Committee.
Offer Letter: Once the successful candidate is selected, the People Unit will extend a Job Offer, specifying the start day, salary and overall job conditions.

A Human Resources Unit representative will participate in the interviews to ensure procedural correctness and compliance with OTM R principles, without forming part of the Selection Committee.
The evaluation committee will perform the assessment ensuring the absence of conflict of interest with any of the candidates and will sign a Declaration of Absence of Conflict of Interest (DACI) to that end. In case a conflict of interest arises, the evaluator will be substituted by a different evaluator with similar expertise.
