The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Ballester research group.

Description of the project: The researcher will be involved in two different projects: a) the study of the mediation of chemical reactions in molecular containers to evaluate the acceleration levels achieved by their enzyme-like properties; and b) the design and synthesis of molecular receptors for the recognition of methylated and acetylated lysine and arginine relevant for the identification and quantification of post-translational modifications of histones.

Responsibilities

• The position will involve carrying out the synthesis of organic molecules and the use of a wide range of techniques for the physical-chemical characterization of supramolecular complexes (NMR, UV-Vis and ITC).
• Assist in the training and supervision of student’s projects and in the development of student’s research skills.
• Writing of scientific reports and manuscripts.
• Assist in the manuscripts’ revision and writing of research projects.

Requirements:

• PhD in Chemistry from 2024 or later
• Expertise in multistep organic synthesis.
• Experience in the field of supramolecular chemistry
• Demonstrated experience in writing and publishing research results in top scientific journals.
• Experience in spectroscopic techniques (e.g. UV-Vis, fluorescence, NMR).
• Leadership and responsibility in the development of academic research projects.
• Excellent command of English (written and oral) is required.

We offer:

• A 3-year full-time contract.
• Remuneration according to individual’s qualification/experience.
• Annual salary split in twelve monthly payments
• Incorporation: April/May 2025

Selection Process

ICIQ’s selection process usually entails the following phases:

• Pre-selection: The pre-selection process will be based on qualifications and expertise as reflected on the candidates’ CVs. This phase is merit-based.
• Interview: Preselected candidates will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager of the position and the appointed Selection Committee.
• Offer Letter: Once the successful candidate is selected, the People Unit will extend a Job Offer, specifying the start day, salary and overall job conditions.
