Postdoctoral Researcher (Ref: Postdoc 2025-01 BU)
Looking for an exciting research opportunity in one of the leading scientific research institutes? Come join us at ICIQ!
The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher.
ICIQ is one of the world’s internationally recognized leading institutions in the field of chemistry committed to solving major social and economic challenges by conducting top quality research in three main areas: Sustainable Catalysis, Renewable Energy and Health. The institute also aims at training the future generation of scientists by offering high-quality educational programs to master, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers (full details on http://www.iciq.org/).
ICIQ is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join Prof. Burés’ research group in collaboration with AstraZeneca's Global Chemical Development department in the United Kingdom. The postdoc will primarily be based at ICIQ, with the possibility of visiting AstraZeneca in Macclesfield when essential. These visits will be limited, allowing access to complementary facilities, gaining insights into AstraZeneca’s internal processes, and sharing research methodologies.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to contribute to an exciting project focused on mechanistic studies aimed at improving synthetic methods relevant to industrial processes. This collaboration combines the academic excellence of ICIQ with the industrial impact of AstraZeneca, a global leader in chemical innovation.
The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research at the interface of fundamental and applied chemistry, advancing physical organic chemistry to address industrial challenges. This multidisciplinary training will provide a strong foundation for a future career in either academia or industry.
Responsibilities
- Design, perform and analyse the result of reaction mechanistic experiments.
- Produce high-quality planning documents, research reports and publications.
- Conduct individual and collaborative research projects with our partner (AstraZeneca).
Requirements
- Holding a PhD degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- A strong background in organic chemistry and/or catalysis.
- Knowledge of techniques used to monitor reactions such as NMR, IR, HPLC, and GC.
- Proficient in English (written and spoken).
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative to drive the project forward.
Valued qualities
- Highly motivated, ambitious and enthusiastic.
- Expertise in physical organic chemistry.
- Ability to contribute to broader management and administrative processes.
- Strong journal publication record.
- Attendance and presentations at international conferences.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry through internships or other avenues.
We offer
- A 3-year full-time employment contract.
- Remuneration according to individual’s qualifications/experience.
- Annual salary split in twelve monthly payments.
- Incorporation: ASAP.
