2 Postdoctoral Researchers (Postdoc 2023-38/39 MGS)
Looking for an exciting research opportunity in one of the leading scientific research institutes? Come join Prof. Marcos G. Suero at ICIQ!
The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking two Postdoctoral Researchers to join the Suero research group. These positions will be funded by the European Research Council – ERC project CARBYNE (865554).
ICIQ is one of the world’s internationally recognized leading institutions in the field of chemistry committed to solving major social and economic challenges by conducting top quality research in three main areas: Sustainable Catalysis, Renewable Energy and Health. The institute also aims at training the future generation of scientists by offering high-quality educational programs to master, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers (full details on http://www.iciq.org/).
Description of the project: The art of organic synthesis and reaction discovery relies on logic-guided thought processes that often involve hypovalent carbon reactive species and their corresponding stabilized equivalent forms. However, not all of the possible carbon reactive intermediates and their reactivity rules have attracted the same attention by the synthetic community. This is mainly because of the perception of the lack of synthetic utility and importantly, because of the challenges associated with controlling its extreme reactivity and lack of efficient sources. The main goal of this project is to develop new chemical reactions based on equivalents of carbyne species –the monovalent carbon species–, and their use in the (enantioselective) synthesis and late-stage functionalization of complex molecules.
Responsibilities
- § Development of new chemical reactions based on equivalents of carbyne species and synthetic applications thereof.
- § Writing reports, preparation of scientific articles, and presentation of results in group meetings and conferences.
- § Maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- § Complete documentation of research results.
We are looking for a self-motivated, creative and independent individual that fulfill the following requirements:
- PhD in Organic chemistry or related field.
- Proven track record in discovery and development of novel catalytic concepts.
- Experiences in photochemistry, photocatalysis, metal-catalyzed C–H bond functionalization, radical chemistry, asymmetric catalysis, natural product synthesis, late-stage functionalization or biomolecule bioconjugations
- Proven good level of written and spoken English.
- Strong commitment for scientific excellence.
We offer:
- A 3-year full-time contract.
- Remuneration according to individual’s qualification/experience.
- Annual salary split in twelve monthly payments
- Incorporation: December 2023 – January 2024
The candidate must submit (a) a cover letter highlighting the interest in the position in the Suero research group, (b) a full CV including a research summary highlighting the most significant results, and (c) the names and emails of at least two referees that might be willing to write down a recommendation letter.
OTM-R principles in the selection processes
ICIQ follows the principles of Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment (OTM-R) and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers as established by the European Commission.
ICIQ follows in its selection process a gender equality opportunity policy and a non-discrimination policy on the basis of age, ethnic or social origin, religion or belief, sexual orientation, language and disability.
ICIQ is committed to promoting a work-life balance for its employees and, as such, offers flexible working hours.
Selection Process
ICIQ’s selection process usually entails the following phases:
- Pre-selection: The pre-selection process will be based on qualifications and expertise as reflected on the candidates’ CVs. This phase is merit-based.
- Interview: Preselected candidates will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager of the position and the appointed Selection Committee.
- Offer Letter: Once the successful candidate is selected, the People Unit will extend a Job Offer, specifying the start day, salary and overall job conditions.
